Cave description:

The cave develops inside grey Lower Carboniferous limestone, on the side of a large doline, near Wan Tien Chen village (Zorzin & Melotti, 1995). A large rubble mound is inside the entrance, it is the starting point of a very decorated, large gallery. Numerous large and shallow pools with pisoliths of various sizes are present on the floor. The name of the cave, which literally means “dark Cave” comes from the thin dark layer covering the walls. Teeth of carnivorous mammals were discovered in a clay layer 50 cm thick, covered by a calcitic layers few cm thick. They are presently under study at the Museo Civico di Soria Naturale of Verona.
