From 1995 researchers from Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU are working on slovene-chinese karstological
projects. In 1998 their studies were published in the book "South China Karst". Also in the year 1999 researches
took place in Yunnan, that's in central Lunan shilin (stone forest) as well as in less touristically known shilins.
Beside this they have been recognising characteristics of cone and tower karst in the regions of Babao and
Puzhehei.

Description : WATER TRACING TEST IN THE TIANSHENGAN REGION,
YUNNAN - CHINA AT HIGH WATER LEVEL
The results of water tracing in the Tianshengan region, Lunan, Yunnan province, China are given. This water
tracing presents a continuation of water flow studies in this part of the karst based on Slovene-Chinese scientific
co-operation. In September 1997 a water tracing test at high water level was carried out and showed
greater velocities double compared to water flow in this area at medium water level in July 1996.

Stone forests have evolved from underground karren. The shape of rock pillars and their rock relief are
controlled by different rock beds where they developed at various levels and by underground factors and
rainwater.

Description : Les connaissances actuelles de la faune souterraine des régions karstiques chinoises sont le
résultat de quelques études d'inventaire menées par des expéditions étrangères avec ou sans
la collaboration de biologistes chinois et d’un travail qui paraît important, mais parfois dur
à décrypter, des scientifiques chinois. Les groupes les mieux explorés sont sans doute, les poissons et les Carabidae terrestres (Chen et al. 2000). En ce qui concerne la faune
aquatique de la région du Guizhou, le principal inventaire a été réalisé en 1992, par une
expédition franco-chinoise qui a explorée plusieurs résurgences (Rouch 1993). La faune
d'invertébrés est composée d'espèces de Triclade et de micro-crustacés (Copépodes et
Ostracodes). Bien que présentes dans d'autres régions chinoises, aucune espèce de crustacés
Ispopode, Amphipode, Decapode et d'insectes Coleoptères n'a été signalée dans le Guizhou.
Pour les poissons, 15 espèces appartenant à 3 familles différentes sont présentes sur
l'ensemble de la Chine (Chen et al. 2000, Weber 2000). Dans la région du Guizhou, une
espèce du genre endémique Sinocyclocheilus (S. angularis) est présente dans la région qui
sera explorée par l'expédition (comté de Pan-Xian). Par ailleurs 7 autres espèces1 ont été
observées dans des cavités situées à moins de 250 Km des zones étudiées par l'expédition,
dont 3 dans la même cavité de Jiuxiang Limestone Cave (Yiliang, Yunnan) ce qui représente
un exemple unique de cohabitation dans le monde souterrain.

Description : Gammarus translucidus, a new species of cave amphipod from Zuanyankong cave in the north of
Guizhou, is reported. A detailed description and illustrations of this freshwater amphipod are given
and differences to related species are discussed.
Gammarus translucidus, une nouvelle espèce d’amphipode souterrain, trouvée dans la grotte
Zuanyankong, dans le nord de la province de Guizhou, est définie. Une description détaillée et
des illustrations de cet amphipode d’eau douce sont données et les différences avec les espèces
apparentées sont discutées.

Bulgarian-Chinese-Greek Speleological Expedition “Gaoligongshan’2011” – Yunnan Province, China

Summary: During October-November 2011, 6 Bulgarian, 4 Chinese and 1 Greek cavers realized a joint Bulgarian-Chinese-Greek expedition to Yunnan Province. Within 20 days, 12 of which fieldwork, the expedition worked in two different areas about 400 km far from each other. Ten days were devoted to work in the Baoshan district, in particular on the territory of Gaoligongshan National Nature Reserve, which stretches along the China-Myanmar border. Six horizontal and 2 vertical caves were explored. 3 more caves were studied close to Kunming city. Among them are the longest caves explored during the expedition: Yenze Dong (Swallow cave) with 1’514 m and Da Shi Dong (Big rock cave) with 1’394 m length. During the expedition, 10 caves with a total length of 4’972 m and a maximum depth of 118 m were mapped. All objects were studied from a biospeleological point of view, and considerable zoological material was collected.

Description : This report documents the expedition carried out by members of the Hong Meigui (HMG) Caving Club in Zhongdian, Yunnan Province, China during 2005. This expedition was a 4 week, 13 person summer caving expedition based between mid-July and mid-August. The brief aims of the expedition were to explore known caves and discover new entrances both on the 4,300 metre plateau between Zhongdian and the Jinsha Jiang (Yangtze River) and at resurgence level 2,300 metres below. This expedition was based on the work carried out by the Hong Meigui expeditions of 2002 [HMG02], 2003 [HMG03] and 2004 [HMG04]. Following extensive reconnaissance work in 2002, a specific mountain range had been identified, just west of the town of Zhongdian, which looked particularly promising in terms of undiscovered caves. This mountain range attracted excitement because of its depth potential: rainfall on mountains of up to 4,500m altitude appeared to drain underground and reappear at known resurgences in and near the Jinsha Jiang valley at 2,000 – 2,200m altitude, making for a depth potential of 2-2.5km.

Description : Hong Meigui Tian Xing 2004 was a 9-week, 15-member caving expedition to Tian Xing village of Wulong County, Chongqing Muncipality in southwest China. The expedition was affiliated to the Hong Meigui Cave Exploration Society. The expedition continued work of previous Hong Meigui CES and China Caves Project expeditions to the same area.
A total of 9,665m of passage were surveyed, including significant extensions to Dà KÄ“ng (depth 775m) and Liù ChÇ AÅkÇ’u Xià Dà²ng (depth 592m), which are now ranked as the second and fourth deepest caves in China. Numerous new entrances were located and explored, including Bamboo Cave (depth 356m) and Là¡nmù Shù Dà²ng (depth 230m), both with potential for further exploration.
A video documentary was made of the expedition. Biological specimens were collected as part of a ongoing collaboration with the Yunnan Institute of Zoology.
Follow-up expeditions are planned for 2005 and beyond.
